Doodle Art Cards, Pokemon & Baseball

What do they have in common? You want to collect 'em all.

This week I got to pick!

From my newest set of collector's doodle art cards that arrived this week, I curated a special doodles art card set for a far-away friend who made a donation in support of Diana Doodles to my nonprofit -- did you know that I have a nonprofit? I do! It supports self-compassion, kindness toward others and connection in online community.

At my friend's request, I intuitively chose the doodle art cards that I felt were meant for her. Can I tell you how much fun that was? It was the best!

This latest series of limited edition collectible doodle art cards showcases 38 of the 600+ doodles created since the Daily Doodles began.

As you might imagine, given how many doodles that I have created at this point in time-- with a new one adding to the library every single day! -- I have needed to develop an identifying system. I initially identified each doodle by its original publishing date; however, when the collectible art cards came into being nearing the close of 2023, some of the original doodles received make-overs, which meant that more than one iteration then existed for some doodle designs.

My first 20 doodle art cards printed were a test run batch. I just wanted to be sure that the color reproduction was going to be on-point before investing in quality printing. Even though I have a long history as a career children's book illustrator, I had been a traditionally trained tactile artist, and the daily doodles are my first foray into digital art publishing. Once I learned that digital art translates beautifully into printed work, I felt super about designing more doodle art cards.

This newest series contains 38 cards. As I was uploading the artwork, my son shared a brilliant idea with me, and that is this: he advised me to begin a numbering system not  unlike collectible baseball cards, thereby giving each doodle its own identifying number regardless of creation date so that I could be free to retire, or reiterate, doodle designs as time goes on, while protecting their limited edition collectability.

Am I alone here remembering the Pokémon cartoon theme intro song from years back, "Gotta catch 'em all"? Well, I happen to love playing Pokémon Go and have quite a collection of Pokémon fantazy creatures, which are -- you guessed it -- numbered!

Thinking of doodles like Pokémon or baseball cards, I added tiny numbers to the bottom right front corner of every doodle art card in this new series and will continue the practice going forward.

This February 2024 collection of 38 designs is the first of any series to be numbered as limited editions. Cards will be distributed until a design runs out, and then the design will be retired. Future iterations of a design may appear but as a new and unique alteration of the original.

Fun fact: the very first set of art cards, which I released in the end of 2023, were not numbered! They are now permanently retired!

I can't express the thrill of having people donating to Diana Doodles to collect my art cards. If you've read my Q&A blog then you might recall how I work a length on each daily doodle, so it seems only right to invest the time and money to ensure an excellent printing outcome for them. It is goal that people enjoy the art cards, keep them, share them, and put them in places where they can see them and feel uplifted and encouraged daily.
